What is a Waiver Program?

Waiver programs help people with disabilities or older adults live in the community instead of a nursing home. These programs provide access to essential care and services if certain criteria are met.

What’s Not Covered by a Waiver?

Waivers do not cover:

  • Room and board ($500/month, paid by the resident)

  • Personal utilities (e.g., phone bills)

  • Convenience services

  • Services already covered by Medicare or other plans

Type of Waiver?

Brain Injury (BI) Waiver: For individuals with traumatic or acquired brain injuries needing specialized care.

CADI Waiver: For people with disabilities who require nursing-level care.

Elderly Waiver (EW): For seniors who need support typically provided in a nursing facility.

For residents with low or no Social Security income, the MN Housing Support Program may help pay room and board costs alongside a waiver. Ask us how to apply.
